WILDWOOD/VILLAGE MILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
METHODIST MESSENGER
VOLUME 21, NUMBER 4 JULY, AUGUST 2017
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
SUMMER SERMON SERIES
This summer we are immersing ourselves in the Gospel of Mark. The Series is called “Defiance: Challenging The Norm”. Sermons will follow the method Jesus used to challenge the conventional wisdom of His day and show His followers how to find the one true God. This series is complete with daily devotional readings that follow the sermon series chronologically through the Gospel. The devotionals are found in each Sunday bulletin and also on our new and improved Facebook page.
As 21st century Christians we lose sight of the fact that we are now on par with 1st century Jews who had been waiting 2000 years for their Messiah. They waited centuries for His appearing and we are waiting upon His return. During that long wait the Jews saw their faith distorted by 2000 years of leaders who wanted control. And now Christians have seen their faith distorted by centuries of learned theologians who divided the church into a thousand different fragments we call denominations.
If we look closely at Mark’s Gospel we can be reminded how important it is for us to listen to and follow only our Savior and not get caught in the maze of man-made teaching.
Our prayer is that this series will challenge you to get back to basics and learn again how to recognize the voice of Jesus above the deafening roar of the other voices in your life that are fighting for your attention. Reading together through the book of Mark is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the importance of power of God’s word working in our hearts everyday.
NEW EVANGELISM OUTREACH PROGRAM
Our Church has been working all year to develop a new program for reaching the unreached members of our community. We are developing a Social Media outreach that we pray will connect with members of community that we do not have a connection with right now. We are expanding our Facebook page outreach. If you are on Facebook you can help by liking our page and sharing it with friends and family. The updated Facebook page will be filled with upcoming events and reports about the many successful ministries our Church is currently involved in. You can help by liking and sharing, but you can also help by being present at these events and taking pictures of these events and sharing them with us to post or posting them yourselves. Thanks for joining us in this new adventure.
Learning and sharing with you, Randy and Rene’
